Adults’ Understanding and 6-To-7-Month-Old Infants’ Perception of Size and Mass Relationships in Collision Events

چکیده
Humans first start to perceive the relationship between object size and mass in simple collision events at about 5.5–6.5 months of age. They this link by attending moving anticipating a greater displacement after with large lesser small object. The results aforementioned experiment is based on infants’ responses propelling stationary same distance (long distance). It unknown how infants would if propelled appropriate (congruent) inappropriate (incongruent) distances. This paper aims investigate adults (experiment 1) 6-to-7-month-old 2). served validate our computer-generated events, asking (N = 24) rate likeness happening real-life, size. In second experiment, we tested phenomenon 16) using looking time paradigm. Results from revealed that are line adults’ assumptions size-appropriate size-inappropriate distances cube ball. Adults rated congruent test as more likely than incongruent when asked real-life-based they were. distinguished sizes preferring look ball longer However, did not differ their times for or/and balls. For reason, conclude can distinguish balls but unable associations events.

Categorical perception of facial expressions by 7-month-old infants.
Recent research indicates that adults show categorical perception of facial expressions of emotion. It is not known whether this is a basic characteristic of perception that is present from the earliest weeks of life, or whether it is one that emerges more gradually with experience in perceiving and interpreting expressions. We report two experiments designed to investigate whether young infant...
متن کاملAssessment of sleep status in 6 to 18-month-old infants consuming cerealc
Introduction: Sleep is particularly important in children because it affects their physical and mental evolution. Sleep disorders are seen in 20% to 30% of children. Cereal is being distributed as one of the complementary foods at the pharmacies in Iran. This study is designed to study the sleep status of cereal-consuming infants in order to take a step forward in improving cereal prescribing. ...
متن کاملSpeed and direction changes induce the perception of animacy in 7-month-old infants
A large body of research has documented infants' ability to classify animate and inanimate objects based on static or dynamic information. It has been shown that infants less than 1 year of age transfer animacy-specific expectations from dynamic point-light displays to static images. The present study examined whether basic motion cues that typically trigger judgments of perceptual animacy in o...
متن کاملModeling referential actions in 6- to 18-month-old infants: a precursor to symbolic understanding.
Social precursors to symbolic understanding of pictures were examined with 100 infants ages 6, 9, 12, 15, and 18 months. Adults demonstrated 1 of 2 stances toward pictures and objects (contemplative or manipulative), and then gave items to infants for exploration. For pictures, older infants (12, 15, and 18 months) emulated the adult's actions following both types of demonstration trials. For o...
متن کاملNeural Dynamics of Audiovisual Synchrony and Asynchrony Perception in 6-Month-Old Infants
Young infants are sensitive to multisensory temporal synchrony relations, but the neural dynamics of temporal interactions between vision and audition in infancy are not well understood. We investigated audiovisual synchrony and asynchrony perception in 6-month-old infants using event-related brain potentials (ERP). In a prior behavioral experiment (n = 45), infants were habituated to an audiov...
